Case Studies
Project: Natural Gas Conversion
Client Background:
A large battery manufacturer that produces high quality batteries for
stationary, industrial, automotive, commercial, marine and specialty
markets. Established in 1946, this company has grown to become the largest
single-site battery manufacturer in the world, currently situated on
a 260 acre campus.
Project Description:
Initially, this client requested American PowerNets counsel to review electricity
cost saving strategies in anticipation of electric deregulation. The assessment
of the plants energy use uncovered the potential for greater cost savings
by converting its primary fossil fuel source, propane, to natural gas.
American PowerNet was responsible for the entire project from concept to implementation. These changes have resulted in significant energy cost savings, and greater productivity due to increased gas pressure throughout the manufacturing facility. In addition, the facility now has full redundancy with a seamless switch over through a new propane-air back-up system.
American PowerNet is responsible for year-round energy procurement services with daily monitoring and measurement of energy use for the entire plant. The client now has a reliable year-round energy source, with lower costs. Since the conversion, the facility has realized significant annual savings.
